Hello there,
Today I am going to blog about a topic that occurred to me because of something that our maid did.
Those of who know me well, know that I bake. A lot. And I baked a cake today too. But the reason for today's baking session was a little bit different than usual. Today I baked for our maid's son's birthday :)
She has been working at our house for years now and has seen me bake numerous times. Yesterday, she asked me whether I would bake a cake for her son's birthday.
This simple request of hers turned into a long chain of thoughts in my mind. I suddenly realized that we have been pretty lucky when it comes to having 'Help at Home.' We have had two maids till now, that have impacted my life.
The first one started working with us ever since ; or in fact even before my birth. Since both my parents were working, she used to care for me. As such, she was family. Later, due to her knee-problem, she was unable to continue work. But even after that, she always maintained contact. She even invited us for her sons' wedding. She visits us whenever my sister is in India.
The kind of love she has showered upon us will stay with me forever. She was- is- and will remain a part of our family.
After she stopped working, I thought no one could be as good as her. She had set the bar up too high.
But proving us wrong, came another helping hand. And although no one could replace 'Bai', that's what I called her (I know calling someone Bai is weird 😂 But I call her that for as long as I remember now),
Sangeeta Maushi came into the picture and exceeded our expectations. That.Woman.Just.Loves.To.Feed. Not just me and my parents, but also my friends, my colleagues, even our cats. I speculate that she can read our minds. Because I think of a dish, and the next day it is served. She cares for our kitchen just the way my mom does.Going above and beyond, she thinks of each and every need of all the families she works for.
A beautiful memory that I will always cherish : She knows I love wearing earrings and bought me a pair when she attended a fair. That, I think was a really beautiful gesture.
So, in short, we have had amazing ladies helping us out, when we were too busy working 'Not From Home' and it suddenly hit me that I have never appreciated them enough. I missed them the most during Quarantine.
So I have learnt my lesson. I will never ever take them for granted. And I think neither of us should!
What are your thoughts on this? Let me know in the comments below!
Also, a gentle reminder to pay your 'Staff' in case you haven't 🍀
P.S. A picture of the cake I baked below :

ReplyDeleteHey Namu, totally agree with you that we should be thankful to them and not take them for granted. I could totally relate to it as I had similar relationship with one of our house help. I used to call her Rohini tai (though she was the same age as me). Its very sweet of you to bake a cake for her son. The cake looks delicious!
